MEMBERS SUPPORT
Through our Members Support Program we provide support for LGBTQIA+ and HIV+ Immigrants in detention centers in the US. Services provided include:
- Legal Services Referrals.
- Access to Hotline Support.
- Commissary Funding.
- Letters of support.
- Pen Pal Program.
We also assist LGBTQIA+ and HIV+ Immigrants who have been released from detention and newly arrived in the Tri-State area by:
- Peer navigation in providing referrals to access medical and/or mental health services, housing once qualified, or shelter solutions. Peer support in transportation navigation (metro services), understanding the map, using GPS, accessing emergency services and court accompaniment.
- Depending on our capacity we assist in filing (Pro Se Only) I-589 Asylum applications and I-765 Application for Employment Authorization.
- Economic support for asylum seekers during their court process.
- Legal Referrals.
- ELL Classes referrals.
- Newly arrived LGBTQIA+ and HIV+ immigrants will receive a welcome package from QDEP. This welcome package includes a gift card, a one month phone service and one month metro card.
COMMUNITY ORGANIZING
QDEP seeks to bring about systemic change through our Community Organizing Program. Our goal is to work towards:
- Abolishing ICE
- Preventing the development of new jails in NYC
- Developing leadership positions in organizing spaces for LGBTQIA+ immigrants, particularly Trans women, cis women, femmes, and gender non-conforming folx.
Past actions have included:
- Actively ending ICE contracts at the Hudson County Correctional Facility
- The national ‘ICE on Trial’ campaign
